✔️ Remove creosote buildup — even a small amount can ignite
✔️ Use only dry, seasoned wood (never burn trash, cardboard, or treated wood)
✔️ Install a chimney cap to keep out animals, debris, and moisture
✔️ Check for cracks, loose bricks, or damaged liners
✔️ Ensure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working on every level of your home
